Big sis' second tooth fell out on Saturday, September 3rd. Well, "fell out" is probably the wrong way to describe the tooth coming out. It was more like big sis forced it along on Friday by biting into an apple which got the tooth extremely loose. Then Saturday morning she attempted to coax it out with another apple followed by extensive brushing. Finally, after an hour of the tooth saga it began to bleed. So mommy grabbed a paper towel and pulled oh so gently and that tooth just popped right out!
Big sis wrote a new note to the tooth fairy "I like the last one. I want a new one." I think she was talking about the gold coin she received. I love that she included a picture of her and the tooth fairy hanging out at the bottom of the note. Of course the tooth fairy obliged with her own response. :)

Lost Tooth
Big sis lost her first tooth today! We have been watching her wiggle her bottom tooth for about a month. This week it got super (gross) loose. There are many firsts we have been fortunate to witness. Even with juggling two busy work schedules we have missed fairly few of the kiddos' firsts. But this week, for some reason, I was really worried I would miss this one. I think I was concerned because I have some extra anxiety over work this week (the project I am working on is transferring to new leadership and a new department and there have been some ups and downs in that process). And big sis was SO EXCITED about the thought of losing her tooth and waiting for the tooth fairy. I just wanted to see this one.
Disco was actually in the room with big sis when it happened - I was reading books to little man in his room. Disco and big sis worked on digging the tooth out of the toothpaste after her toothbrush knocked it out. It was priceless to hear her scurry very loudly through the hallway yelling "I lost my tooth, I lost my tooth!!!" When she arrived in little man's room big sis was out of breath, grinning from ear to ear, and proudly displaying her lost tooth. I am so glad I wasn't in class, or working, or traveling for this first! Sometimes the timing around here is perfect.

crazy cavities
Today big sis went back to the dentist. So while big sis was brushing her teeth one last time before we left the house, little man and I were enjoying cereal at the table. After a few minutes little man noticed big sis was not at the table anymore. He kept asking "where big sis go? where big sis go?." Then his brain registered that we had been talking about brushing her teeth earlier. So his next repeated comments were "brushin her teef? brushin her teef?." I don't know why 2 year olds have to repeat questions about 6 times before they give you a chance to answer . . . but it was kinda cute this morning. I was finally able to tell him "yes." His next comment just cracked me up - he said "thads crazay mommay!" and when Disco made it into the room again he told him the same thing. Not sure why brushing your teeth is crazy but little man just sat there grinning at himself thinking about his funny joke.
Big sis has been doing so well at brushing her teeth lately that I wasn't the least bit worried today. Until the dental hygienist was poking around, and around, and around. She took much longer than last time. And then she got this little laser pointer out to "check" big sis' teeth. Not good signs . . . when the hygienist was done she told me that all 4 of big sis' back molars had cavities. And since she doesn't lose them until she is 12 yrs old we need to do something about it. Thankfully we have dental insurance - because otherwise each tooth would have cost us over $150!!!! Big sis took it in stride and as long as they give her pain medicine she said she would come back in November for the first round of fillings. We are thinking about what "special treats" she will need for this longer appointment . . . definitely new girly sunglasses because they were out of those today at the clinic and she doesn't like the bright lights. Knowing Disco's and my own dental histories I think our dentist will like having our kiddos come through that clinic . . .

Merry Little Vampire

Little man is teething and those top middle teeth are on their way in. If you open the picture up to take a closer look you can see that one of them has broken the skin already. So we had to document our little "vampire fangs" b/c they were too cute. I love his little vampie grin! All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth . . .
